Brisbane Graduate School of Business
Overview Queensland University of Technology (QUT)’s Brisbane Graduate School of Business (BGSB) is known as the provider of ‘Australia’s innovative MBA’.With innovative programme design, excellent student support and highly regarded teaching staff, the BGSB is consistently ranked amongst the top business schools in Australia. World-class business school The BGSB is Queensland’s first business school to be listed in the world’s top 100 MBA programmes by the prestigious Financial Times in its annual 2004 rankings, putting us in the top 3 in Australia. We are accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), EQUIS and have undergone AACSB assessment, with an outcome due late in 2005; if successful, this would place us amongst the few schools in the world with the ‘triple crown’ of accreditation. Domestically, the Graduate Management Association of Australia (GMAA) rates the BGSB MBA as one of the five-star programmes in Australia. Innovative programmes The innovative structure and content of the BGSB’s programmes is unique in Australia, and allows students greater choice and flexibility when designing their programme. Each MBA unit is conducted across a seven-week teaching period. There are six teaching periods a year (two per semester), meaning six entry points every year. By undertaking the shorter, sharper units, our students cover a wider range of core subjects and have a greater choice of electives, which gives them more depth than a standard MBA and a distinct career advantage. An MBA for the real world Being the only full-service university campus in the Brisbane central business district gives us close access to our corporate neighbours, and we utilise this to offer career resources, including internships and industry projects. Our real-world connections also extend to our advisory committee, which is a group of industry professionals who combine with our senior academic staff to provide input into our curriculum and general strategic direction. The advisory committee also has a number of international members to bring a global perspective into its considerations. Australia’s entrepreneurial MBA BGSB has special expertise and experience in entrepreneurship education, and offers a wide variety of choices for the entrepreneur, intrapreneur or venture capitalist. We are the host of The John Heine Entrepreneurial Challenge and have regular visits from some of the world’s leading entrepreneurship academics. Global perspectives We have exchange agreements in 11 countries, giving our students the opportunity to do part of their studies overseas. We also have visiting professors from all over the globe who come to Brisbane regularly to share their expertise and they compliment our already international teaching staff. Our Executive MBA programme includes a ten-day international study tour, which is open to all our students, and we also participate in global MBA competitions, like the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad’s Confluence Competition and the International MOOTCORP Business Plan Competition. |
