School of Management

School of Management Although the School of Management of Warsaw University has been in existence for only 23 years, it is the oldest university faculty of its kind in this part of Europe (that is, in the former eastern bloc).

It goes back to 1972, when the Institute of Management Studies was set up at the Warsaw University; two years later, in 1974, it became the Institute of Organisation and Management of the Warsaw University together with the Polish Academy of Sciences. 1977 was a turning point in the history of the university, and at this stage, the Institute became a Faculty, taking its present name. It remains a faculty of the largest university in Poland, having also undergone internal re-organisation, the latest in 1996.

From its inception, the School of Management has aimed to create highly-expert managers for Polish business and local and central government. These aims were reflected in the setting up in 1990 of the International Centre for Management Studies, designed to educate managers and businessmen trained to compete in a market economy.
