Our MBA programmes are designed for experienced professionals who are at a transitional point in their careers and want to consolidate, reappraise or change direction. We offer a choice of two study formats, the full-time MBA International and the part-time Executive MBA. Both follow the same general approach, the MBA International having a more international focus.

Contemporary strategic issues are holistic and multi-faceted. Our programme addresses this reality, being structured in such a way as to develop your strategic insights and abilities through a process of applied problem-solving. We aim to develop strategic leadership and general management abilities by combining sound theoretical knowledge with experience and practical skills.

Our class size is around thirty, allowing more personalised attention for each student and facilitating more interactive class discussions and closer student–faculty interaction. Emphasis is placed upon teamwork and knowledge exchange. Opportunities are provided through collaborative group work, in-class discussions, a development centre activity, and two residentials, where problem-solving skills can be developed in a social and friendly environment. A one-week European residential consolidates knowledge of business theory and applies it to the challenging context of the European Union.

Our MBA International programme attracts a culturally diverse cohort of students (typically drawn from around 20 different nationalities) and our focus is on integrating experiences across cultures. Recognising that studying for an MBA can be a demanding experience, individual guidance and counselling are a central part of the student-orientated environment at the University of Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Business School (PBS) is at the forefront of teaching and research. We are rated in the UK top 20% for research, (latest UK Government Research Assessment Exercise, 2001), with the highest ranking on the South Coast of England. In February 2006 the Business School was awarded ESRC accreditation, placing us amongst the elite of UK business schools, and enabling us to access the very best research opportunities for our doctoral students.

PBS is closely involved with public and private sector organizations. As well as ensuring that the development of our programme continues to meet the needs of course members and employers, these links provide access to learning and research opportunities.

Since 2004, Portsmouth Business School has occupied a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the city centre, minutes away from the waterfront. This excellent learning environment is complimented by an extensive library close by, and by a wide variety of other University facilities. The City of Portsmouth itself is one of the most lively and cosmopolitan cities on the South Coast of England, offering a huge range of social activities and multi-cultural experiences.
