School of Management

Overview

The University of Bath has a reputation for quality and excellence in teaching and research, and the credibility of the Bath MBA is widely acknowledged. We have been teaching MBAs for nearly 40 years, and have the knowledge and experience to deliver tried and tested programmes. Through a culture that encourages debate with academics and programme peers, we enable individuals to take responsibility and influence their own career path.

The Bath MBA is a general management programme designed for mature, experienced individuals with a minimum of three years’ post-graduation experience. It is available in full and part-time formats.

Our one-year full-time programme attracts a culturally diverse cohort of students drawn from over 20 different countries. The Bath MBA encourages critical thinking, teamwork, creativity and personal development through a teaching environment that is based upon debate, active enquiry and interaction between academics and students.

The full-time Bath MBA comprises: core courses in financial management, human resources, marketing, operations management and corporate social responsibility; electives; strategy and change; the Claverton Entrepreneurship Competition; management and personal skills; and the summer project.

The Claverton Entrepreneurship Competition, an integral part of the Full-time Bath MBA programme, celebrated its thirtieth birthday in 2005. Each year MBA students from different industry backgrounds and different nationalities spend nine months working on the business plans for their entrepreneurial ideas. The programme culminates in a business plan competition, sponsored by ICON Corporate Finance.

The two-year part-time Executive MBA programme is taught over 15 weekends on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. Core courses are taught in Year 1, then the focus shifts to strategy and change in Year 2.

The modular MBA covers the same core subjects as the Executive MBA programme within a structure of one-week residential modules. This flexible model is an attractive option for students based outside the UK, and the choice of start dates enables the individual to manage their work, life and study commitments.

The School of Management has a thriving alumni community of over 7,000 graduates from 101 countries across the world. Over 84% of our MBA graduates are actively in touch with us and enjoy maintaining their links with their University. Our graduates can be found in a wealth of organisations from small to large and not-forprofit to multinational organisations.

We also provide opportunities for you to keep your MBA current with guest speakers, short seminars and regular refresher courses. MBA alumni may now return to take part in our short elective courses. In the academic year 2004/05, electives on offer included Entrepreneurship and The Small Business, European Business, Making Strategy Happen, New Brand Creation and Development, and Strategic Supply: Concepts and Implementation.
