Stockholm School of Economics

SSE MBA is a full-time, one-year general management program with a strong international focus. This professionally oriented program will prepare a select group of experienced practitioners for career advancement toward top leadership positions. This preparation takes place in small cohorts of maximum 45 students where a range of established and innovative educational formats are used: group projects, extended Live CasesSM and one-to-one personal tutoring alongside traditional academic lectures and seminars. Common to all these formats are educational methods and an educational philosophy that encourage critical thinking rather than providing only ready-made answers, in other words methods that promote active learning and creativity. Graduates may well come away with some checklists and a rich analytical toolbox, but they will certainly learn how to identify relevant and critical questions when facing complex challenges.

The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), founded in 1909 by leading members of the Swedish business community, is Scandinavia’s leading business school. The School has always been research intensive, and the quality of the School’s educational programs rests on the research activities of about 40 full professors and research faculty of approximately 350. In 1999, the School was the first in Sweden to get accredited by EQUIS and was reaccredited during the spring of 2005. The school is also a member of the CEMS and the PIM networks. In addition to the full-time SSE MBA, the School offers Executive MBA programs taught in English at its campuses in Stockholm, Riga (Latvia) and St. Petersburg (Russia).

SSE MBA builds upon the rigorous SSE research tradition but also upon the very close working relationship that exists between the School and the business community. This unparalleled relationship is exceptionally rich and dynamic and now embraces international as well as national organizations, with over one hundred corporations providing financial support for the School. These ties also extend well beyond financial support, with prominent leaders from both the private and the public sectors participating in School governance and frequently appearing as guest lecturers. This relationship infuses SSE MBA’s day-to-day activities. Extensive Live CasesSM, worked out together with the companies involved, bridge our various courses and guarantee maximum relevance to today’s global business environment. At a personal level, this relationship makes it possible for us to offer a mentoring program for each student that ensures that each participant makes the most of his or her MBA experience, both during and after the program.

Studying in Stockholm offers international students an insight into one of the world’s most fully globalized economies. As home to corporations such as Ericsson, H&M, AstraZeneca, Scania, Atlas Copco and Electrolux, Stockholm is an environment where internationalization isn’t a slogan, it’s a way of life. Culturally, Stockholm opens its doors to international visitors with English-language films and theater, several concert halls and opera houses while the beauty of its surrounding archipelago with over 24,000 islands speaks an idiom that transcends language.
