Bremen University of Applied Sciences (School of International Business)

Overview

Bremen University of Applied Sciences (BUAS) is one of the most international universities in Germany. Compulsory exchange programmes within a global academic network are integral part of most of the University’s undergraduate courses. BUAS currently has more than 8,000 students on 56 degree courses. The University’s School of International Business (SIB) offers courses focused on international business and economics at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The School’s MBA in Global Management (MGM) was created in 1998. From the start, this programme has been internationally well received. It is a one-year full-time specialist MBA taught completely in English. The programme is characterised by highly qualified international teaching staff, a multinational and diverse student body, joint research combined with academic excellence, practical orientation and the option of an in-company internship.

The MGM programme aims to provide management skills focused on global business. Graduates of this course are one step closer to becoming specialists. Therefore, it is necessary for applicants to have a basic economic/business awareness before they will be accepted onto the programme, generally proven by a business related Bachelor’s degree plus two years of practical professional experience.

The core components of this programme cover the following areas:

  • global economics and social trends

  • cross-cultural management

  • management of international projects

  • business policies and ethics

  • global marketing

  • international human resources management

  • international finance and financial markets

  • logistics for global business

  • international business law.

As the University also recognises credits earned abroad, students are actively encouraged to take the opportunity to study for some modules at its partner universities.

SIB also recently launched an MBA in International Tourism Management (MTM). It is a one-year full-time specialist MBA,also taught in English. The programme will provide prospective candidates with a competitive advantage in securing a career in the tourism industry through a careful balance of managerial knowledge and specialist skills tailored specifically towards the tourism sector.

The core components of the MTM programme cover the following:

  • the phenomenon of tourism and its systems

  • economics of tourism and its industries

  • environments of tourism

  • tourism demand

  • strategic and operative marketing competencies in tourism

  • international and global tourism management

  • specific management competencies in tourism (project management, e-tourism, quality management and process management)

  • marketing research in tourism

  • culture and cross-cultural management

  • business policy and ethics.

Both MBA programmes are supported by highly qualified professors from various disciplines at BUAS and renowned professors from our partner universities all over the world. The programmes are further enriched by the involvement and participation of well-experienced external lecturers from the respective business sectors. Recently the two programmes were integrated into the newly established International Graduate Centre, with the advantage of a common campus, administration and service unit for all postgraduate programmes.
